Immerse Yourself in Appalachian Arts

At SOMAH, you can immerse yourself in the handcrafts that our ancestors had to master to thrive – making baskets, throwing pots, making wood-turned bowls and hand-carved spoons, knitting and crocheting essentials, cooking over a fire, gardening, and keeping bees.

We offer courses in woodworking (lathe-turning & carving), painting (water color, oil/acrylic, on canvas and silk), pottery (wheel & handbuild), stained glass, basket-making, beekeeping, bread-baking, outdoor skills, and many others. Our classes are offered on most Saturdays and some weekdays. If you don't see a class offering on a topic that interests you, please let us know!
